4 cottages. Probably with C17 origins partly remodelled and extended in mid C20.
Rendered stone rubble and cob, partly slate-hung above ground floor on front, and
partly covered with corrugated iron on rear. Slate roof with gabled ends with lower
roof to range on left. Cement-washed rag slate roof with several early crested ridge
tiles to rear wing comprising Number 4 Rose Cottages. Rendered stone rubble
projecting chimney stack with cloam oven projection and brick shaft on front slope of
higher gable on left. Stone rubble axial originally end chimney stack with brick
shaft between Numbers 1 and 2 Rose Cottages. C20 brick shaft to projecting stone
rubble chimney stack on lower right-hand gable end. Very large, projecting stone
rubble chimney stack on gable end of rear wing comprising number 4.
Plan considerably altered to form four 1-room cottages probably in C19 with rear
outshuts. Altered in mid C20 with shallow projecting wings in place of outshuts.
Numbers 1-3 form line of terraced cottages with Number 4 forming rear wing, at right
angles, set back from lower right-hand gable end.
2 storeys, regular 3-window front. Number 1 comprises a 2-light casement to left and
rendered porch with lean-to asbestos slate roof and part glazed C20 door. 2-light
casement above ground floor window. Numbers 2 and 3 have two 2-light casements with
glazing bars flanking central open porch with rendered side walls and lean-to slate
roof. Two partly glazed doors within. Above, 2 similar 2-light casements above
ground floor windows. Rear wing comprising Number 4 with 2-light casements with
glazing bars and entrance in front gabled end.
Interior Number 2 has bowtell mouldings to circa C18 ceiling beams. C20 chimney
piece. Number 4 has C20 chimney piece to large stone rubble projecting end chimney
stack. C20 ceiling beams. Roof timbers ceiled. Feet of principals straight and
slightly chamfered.
