Cottage, now store. Circa C17. Stone rubble with cement washed scantle slate and
corrugated iron roof with gable ends. Large projecting stone rubble chimney stack on
higher gable end. Probably 1-room plan heated by large end chimney stack with
entrance probably leading directly into hall room. However, there is some evidence
of rebuilding at lower gable end and building may possibly have continued.
2 storeys. Front elevation altered. Asymmetrical single-window front. Ground floor
with entrance on left with slate hood above. Large hall window to right, blocked on
exterior. Niche remains on interior. First floor with single-window opening.
Lower gable end appears to have been rebuilt. Openings in rear wall altered with 2
blocked window openings on ground floor. Small 1-light opening at higher end with
round-headed stone arch opening within, partly eroded. Window openings to rear of
projecting chimney stack on higher gable end. Openings on ground and first floor
blocked. Stone cills remains.
Interior remodelled. Partly floored with C19 stair to rear of entrance passage
removed. Heavy chamfered ceiling beam with run out stops towards lower end. Other
ceiling beams unmoulded and circa C19. Circa C17 fireplace on higher gable end with
timber lintel. Several keeping holes in rear wall. Fireplace circa C17 on first
floor.
Oak pegged roof circa late C18.
This is possibly a rare survival of a C17 single-cell cottage.
