Small house. Circa early C19. Slatestone rubble with granite quoins and brick
arches with projecting keystones. Slurried scantle slate roof swept lower to rear
over continuous integral outshut. Brick chimneys over gable ends and lateral chimney
over middle of rear wall.
2-room central stair plan plus 2 integral service rooms to rear.
2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window south west front with central doorway and 4-panel
door with top panels later glazed. Shallow arches over openings. Original 16-pane
hornless sashes, except 2 replacement copies to left.
Interior not inspected but said to be little altered.
One of a group of 4 similar houses built on a 3 life lease system, and still occupied
(1985) by a member of the same family.
'Under such leases a piece of waste ground could be obtained at a nominal rent, and
on it the lessee would proceed to erect a house with the understanding that at the
death of the longest lived of three selected persons, the ground, together with all
the buildings, and improvements should revert to the original owner. Leases could
