2 cottages, formerly 3, originally a farmhouse. C17 or earlier, remodelled C19.
Slatestone rubble and cob walls with wheat reed thatched roof following slope of
land. Brick chimneys over gable ends, one over rear front. L shaped single depth, 3
room, cross passage plus 1 room wing plan. 2 storeys. Irregular 5 window south
front, all C20, 12 or 16-pane, 2-light casements. Most openings C19 or C20
alterations.
Ground floor from left window, window (formerly door), door (formerly window but
altered walling and slight first floor jetty suggest possibly earlier door position)
projecting walling with 2 windows both in C19 openings (left one in possible stair or
hall window position and one to right cut in back of hall fireplace, lateral chimney
over) and C19 doorway right. All C20 part glazed doors. All ground floor openings
have C19 cambered brick arches.
Wing to right has ground and first floor window central to altered west wall. Raised
eaves. South gable end has external stone chimney breast and projection to left
probably C19 bread oven addition. East, 2 window front of wing, altered C19 to form
cottage with central doorway. C20 gable porch. Ovolo moulded wooden mullions,
ground floor right and first floor windows may be copies of original windows.
Irregular 4 window rear, built on bedrock has 2 more ovolo moulded window frames.
West gable end is C19 rebuild.
Interior of lower part i.e. wing has C18 bowtell moulded beams, pine muntin and plank
screen and C18, 2-panel doors.
Interior of upper end greatly renewed. Roof structure not inspected.
