House, at one time 2 cottages. Late C17/C18 with C19 alterations and
additions. Main range whitewashed plastered cob, thatched roof, brick gable end
chimneys. Right gable end additions have slate roofs, rear left addition stone
with slate roof. Original plan possibly 2 or 3 rooms and cross passage. Present
plan has circa early C18 stair in passage, rear corridor missing behind stair and
ground floor room to right of passage. Right end of house altered or added C19 and
single storey addition to right under slate roof. Rear left addition forms L plan.
2-storey nearly symmetrical 5-window range with central enclosed porch has sloping
slated roof. 2 ground floor timber 2-light casements to left of porch, 10 panes
per light. 1 small 6-pane opening to right of porch, further 2-light timber
casement, 10 panes per light to right. First floor windows 5 similar timber
casements. Ground floor room left has large fireplace with fireplace beam and
cloam oven, hewn ceiling beams. Ground floor room to right of passage has ceiling
beams and boxed-in oak stair of large planks. Roof timbers halved and pegged.
Group value with Church of St Swithin.
