Description

ST TUDY CHURCHTOWN, St Tudy
SX 0676-0776
8/197 The Green View and Churchtown

GV II

House, now divided into 2 houses. Circa early C17. Rendered stone rubble and cob.
Rag slate roof with gable ends. Rendered brick end stacks.
Plan: Original plan uncertain and interior not accessible at time of survey (1986).
The house was probably of 3 room and through passage plan with entrance to right of
centre and the ground sloping down to the right on the south east. The lower right
hand room was heated by an end stack. The hall, on the higher left hand side of the
entrance was probably heated by an axial or rear lateral stack and the shallow
single-storey projection on the higher side on the front was probably either a stair
projection or hall bay. The inner room beyond to left was heated by an end stack and
it is uncertain whether this room was a later C17 extension. Circa mid C19 extension
to the rear of the hall and right hand room, and C20 extension to the rear of the '
inner room on left possibly on site of earlier C18 service rooms. C20 extension of
1-room plan on left hand gable end.
The house has been divided with the inner room and C20 extensions to rear and left
becoming 'Green View' and the hall, passage, right hand room and extension to rear
becoming 'Churchtown'.
Exterior: 2-storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front. Entrance to right of centre and
shallow single storey projection for stair or hall bay to left of centre. Ground
floor with 2 C20 2-light casements lighting original inner room, C20 2-light casement
in stair or hall bay projection with small 1-light window of single piece of stone
lighting right hand side.
Plank, stable-type door to left and C20 2-light casement beyond. First floor with 3
2-light casements. C20 single storey extension on left hand gable end with C20 2-
light casement and part glazed door.
Interior: Not accessible.
