SW 9248-9348 WITH CREED
7/36 Godfrey's
-
GV II

House and shop. Possibly early C18, with alterations of circa early-mid C19, some
later C19 alterations and C20 alterations. Rendered stone rubble. Bitumenised slate
roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Gable end stack with brick shaft to left.
Plan: The house is one of a pair with Roskear (q.v.) attached to right; the open
passage runs along the right side of Godfrey's. 2-room plan, with one room to front
and rear to left; circa early-mid C19, the front room was altered as a shop, and
given a central entrance; the shop now uses the whole of the ground floor. The room
above the passage at the right side is part of Godfrey's.
Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 2-window front. Ground floor has C19 shop front
with 20-pane window to right and left and central C20 door. First floor has early
C19 16-pane sash in exposed box to right and late C19 canted bay to left, with 4-pane
sash to front and sidelights. At the rear, the room over the passage has two early
C18 12-pane sashes with thick glazing bars.
Interior: Not accessible, but may retain features of the early C18, such as panelled
doors.
