Pair of attached houses, now one inn. Early-mid C19, with additions and alterations
of later C19 and C20 alterations. Rendered stone rubble. The house to left has
slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Gable end stack with C20 brick shaft to
left. The house to right has a bitumenised slate roof with ridge tiles and gable
ends. Gable end stack with brick shaft to right. The rear wing has scantle slate
roof.
Plan: The house to left is of 2-room plan, with central entrance; each room of equal
size and originally heated from a gable end stack. C20 addition to rear. The house
to right is of 2-room plan, with a larger room to left and smaller room to right,
each room originally heated from a gable end stack. In the later C19, an addition of
one-room plan was made to rear left, heated from a stack to rear, and a second
addition was made to rear right, of 2-room plan.
Exterior: The house to left is 2-storey, a symmetrical 2-window front. All windows
are C20 replacement 16-pane sashes. Central C19 porch with 4-panelled door and
cornice. The house to right is 2-storey, a nearly symmetrical 2-window front.
Ground floor has central C20 16-pane sash replacing the door; C19 16-pane to right
and left. First floor has C20 16-pane sash to left and C19 16-pane sash to right.
The left gable end has C20 8-pane sash at ground and first floor to right; C20 window
at first floor to left. At the rear, of the house to left, there is a single storey
C20 addition and C20 window at first floor. The rear of the house to right has 2-
storey rear wing to left with C19 4-pane sash at ground and first floor and plank
door at the inner side; the gable end has a single storey addition of late C19 with
2-light 4-pane casement with brick dressings and plank door. There is a shallower
rear wing to right which is open at ground floor to form a porch with 4-pane sash at
ground floor and C20 window to right; C20 window at first floor.
