7/147 Hitchens chest tombs by east end of
- north aisle of Church of St Maddern
GV II
Pair of chest tombs and iron railings. Early C19. One to Henry John Hitchens of
Poltair, died 1804 aged 35, the other indecipherable. Dressed granite chest with
incised slates inset to lids. Original iron railings surrounding the 2 chests. The
chests have plinths, shaped sides and squared edged lids. Rectangular plan chest
with the railings bowed-on-plan at the east end of each chest.
