NY 33 NE CALDBECK Haltcliff

Public House called the Horse and Farrier, now private house. Dated 1777 over
entrance with C19 alterations. Painted roughcast walls under Welsh slate roof
with lower courses of greenslate; painted roughcast chimney stacks. 2 storeys,
2 bays with lower set-back extension to left. C19 gabled porch has inner door
with dated lintel. Sash windows, those on right C19 enlargements, all in
painted stone surrounds. Front of extension is covered by adjoining building
Carrock Cottage (listed separately). Rear has C20 ground floor windows and C19
sash windows above in painted stone surrounds. End wall retains its
wrought-iron inn sign bracket. Ceased to be a pub in the 1970's. C20
extensions to rear of the house are not of interest.
