- east of Westborough Farmhouse

GV II

Courtyard of farmbuildings. Mid/late C19. Red sandstone ; slate roof, hipped at
ends ; 2 chimney stacks.
Plan: 4 ranges enclosing a square yard with an entrance through the west range with
access from a lane running between the farmhouse (to the west) and the courtyard. The
west range contains one heated room (said to be the tack room) and is said to contain
a second.
Exterior: Lofted ranges. The west (outer) elevation of the west range has a large
square-headed yard entrance with rounded corners to the right (south) with a pair of
large C19 timber gates. 3 further doorways on this elevation lead into the west
range, the 2 right hand doorways with stone voussoirs and keyblocks. Inner elevation
of this range not seen at time of survey. The south range, backing directly on to
the road, is blind on the south side. The inner elevation has 3 doorways on the
ground floor, 2 windows and 2 loft doors. The east range is blind on the outer
(east) elevation except for one window. The inner elevation has 5 ground floor
doorways, 3 windows and one loft window and loft loading door. The north range is
blind except for a loft loading door at the east end, which is gabled. Inner
elevation not seen at time of survey.
A handsome group on the roadside, group value with the farmhouse (q.v.).
