II

Detached cottage. Early C17. Rendered or painted cob or rubble, thatch roof.
Originally a cross-passage 2-room house, but extended right by further bay; to
the left is a section of low wall, in the plane of the front, with remains of a
stone 2-light transomed window. Two storeys, 2+1 windows, at ground floor a
2-light casement with transom and horizontal bar, a 3-light casement, and far
right smaller 3-light casement. At first floor are two 2-light horizontal bar
casements in eyebrows. Central to original block a half-glazed C20 door to
round arch in wood, keystone and fluted pilasters, under swept down thatch hood
on light wood support. Gable stack, left, and ridge at assumed original outer
gable. Back has swept down roof to left over a small square light and two plank
doors; the right half has two small 2-light casements, and no sign of possible
back door to cross-passage. Right gable has square light to roof space, two
2-light casements at first floor, and central door below; left gable plain.
Interior has stone spiral stair, cemented over, and a C19 wood stair. Many C19
2-panel doors, simple beams. Roof not inspected, but straight feet to roof
principals are visible.
