Kirkham Priory

A Grade I Listed Building in Westow, North Yorkshire

Gatehouse

The arms in the upper right, three pairs of water skins carried on a pole, are those of the de Roos family, lords of Helmsley in the later middle ages and patrons of the Priory. Curiously they also appear in the arms of Harold Wilson, Lord Wilson of Rievaulx, presumably because Helmsley is the closest town to Rievaulx.
