5/2 Cowhouse with hayloft
approximately 15 metres

Alderthwaite Farmhouse
Cowhouse with hayloft. Early C18. Thinly-coursed sandstone, stone slate eaves
courses to Welsh slate roof. 3 bays (internal); gabled entrance front faces
farmyard. Large quoins. Ground-floor doorway on left has deep stone lintel,
later external stone steps on its right ascend to doorway with wood lintel.
2-light casement to 1st floor has wood lintel; casement in gable with ledge above.
Slit vents in return walls, square pitching hole in left return.
Interior: contemporary floor beams; 2 principal-rafter trusses with cambered tie
