Description

MALTBY HAVEN HILL
SK58NE
(west side)
Yews
8/44 Rear wing to
Yews Mill House
GV II
Remains of mill, now part of house. Probably early C18. Magnesian limestone
rubble, C20 pantile roof. 2 storeys, door and 2 windows to 1st floor. Door
to ground-floor right has ashlar surround with impost blocks and cambered
lintel. Window on its left has casement with glazing bars in square-faced
surround inset with 4 horizontal iron bars; inserted casement to far left.
Central lst-floor door as that to ground floor (later external steps not of
special interest); flanking 2-light flat-faced mullioned windows with C20
casements.
Interior: 2 spine beams of heavy scantling. Mill race survives leading to
wheel pit now concreted beneath lower left-hand part of building. A paper
mill is said to have existed at Yews Mill and this may account for the small
scale of the structure. Main range of Yews Mill House not of special
interest.
