Farmhouse, 1799, for John Savory, altered C19. Brick with corrugated tiles;
3 bays, 2 storeys and attic, main range with wide 2 storey wing to rear.
Symmetrical south facade with rendered string course above first floor rising
to pediment above central bay. Shaped gables. Wide shaped gables to ½
dormers in first and 3rd bay, late C19, each with terracotta Maltese cross,
and flush sash with glazing bars 4 panes wide x 3. First and 3rd bays with
full height recessed panels having segmental heads showing segmental arches
to former wide windows on each floor, now with renewed flush sashes with
glazing bars. Central 4 panelled door with semi-circular fanlight having
radiating glazing bars, flush sash with glazing bars to first floor, both
in recessed panel with segmental head. Lunette with glazing bars within
pediment above. Dentil cornice, gable end internal stacks. 2 inserted
fixed semi-circular headed lights to ground floor of left return, flush sash
with glazing bars to right return ground floor, semi-circular headed 4-paned
fixed windows to attic of left and right gables. Lower 2 storeyed rear wing
of 3 bays with central axial stack and hipped roof; first bay of east facade
projects forward under a parapet, tripartite sash to each floor, that to
ground floor larger and repositioned, large tripartite sash to ground floor
of middle bay, door with C20 classical doorcase to right; 2 first floor
sashes with glazing bars. West facade: large tripartite flush sashes to
ground floor left, 4 tall narrow sash lights to right, both under segmental
arches, similar arches to first floor now with smaller flush sashes with
glazing bars. Single storey addition under hipped roof to north. Interior:
stone floor to hill, open string dogleg staircase with ramped pine hand rail
and square sectioned balusters, turned newel, fireplace of room to west has
each side a pair of downward tapering fluted columns having twisted reeded
base and necking, some volutes; dining room to rear at east with white marble
reeded fireplace incorporating reliefs of baskets of flowers; reeded fire-
places to first floor; coved ceiling to front and rear of stairwell in
attic. Fireplace c.3 metres wide with shelf above to kitchen in rear wing.
