STURMINSTER NEWTON
NEWTON (NORTH SIDE)
Old Mill House

G.V.
II

House, C17 with alterations c.1800. Colour-washed coursed rubble, tiled roof with
stone slate verges and gable ends. One end-stack and one stack to right of door.
2 storeys, 4-window range. Ground floor left has a C19 3-light sash with vertical
glazing bars in a moulded architrave under a wooden lintel. The two right windows
are 3-light wooden casements under segmental stone arches. Above are 2, 3 and 4-
light casements with horizontal glazing bars. The front door has moulded architraves
and is set under a C20 open porch. Former stable range to rear. Fire insurance
plaque on wall. The house, although much altered, appears to have originated as a
3 room, cross passage plan with the stack backing onto the cross-passage.
