Description

BLISLAND TEMPLE

9/80 Somerton Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Circa C17. Stone rubble, painted and rendered on front. Rag slate roof
with gable ends, continued in catslide over rear outshot. Projecting stone rubble
end stacks. Projecting stone rubble end stack to rear outshot with granite moulded
string.
Plan: original plan uncertain. The house appears to comprise a 2 room and through
passage plan heated by end stacks. Straight joints in the external masonry indicate
that the service outshot was added across the rear. However, the end stack heating
the left hand room of the outshot has granite moulded strings and stylistically would
appear possibly C17.
Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 3 window front remodelled in mid to late C19 with
C19 6-pane sashes. Central 4-panel door.
Interior: not accessible at time of survey (1986).
An internal inspection would be helpful to help clarify the date and evolution of the
plan and may reveal interesting features.
