4/27 Brook House Farm House
II
Farmhouse of late C17 origins but early C19 appearance. Red brick in
English Garden Wall Bond with slate roof. 2 storeys and attic, 3
bays. A 2-storey, 2-bay rear wing (north-east) completes an "L"
shaped plan. 2-course deep brick bands above ground floor and first
floor windows. The centre bay is set forward as a two storey gabled
porch, open fronted with side seats. A six panel door, with external
architraves to the frame, is in line with the front wall of the house.
3-light flush casements with weathered terracotta sills and flat
skewback arches, but the first floor level window in the porch
projection is only 2-light. The porch roof is of shaped slates.
Planted timbers with plaster infilling to gables also barge boards and
finials and gable-end stacks. On west side a framed, ledged and
battened door under slated pitched hood supported by shaped brackets.
Interior: Six-panel doors. Bevelled beams, some cased in front of
house. Dogleg staircase with heavy handrail, twisted oak balusters
and panelled soffite. At first floor level there are bevelled beams
and exposed joists and six-panel doors.
