Description

SY 19 NE FARWAY FARWAY

Stables and coach house block
3/89 approximately 4 metres south of
- Netherton Hall
GV II

Stables and coach house block. Mid C19 although parts maybe earlier. Most is
plastered local stone and flint rubble with brick dressings, although a section of
the back wall is brick on stone rubble footings, the front is plastered; red
scallop-shaped tile roof.
Plan: coach house and stables in a single block facing north-west towards the house
and backing onto the lane. The coach houses are to left and stables to right.
Exterior: at the right end are 3 wide coach house doorways with segmental arch
heads. To left are 3 stable doorways with overlights. The right one of these has a
single plain C19 joinery detail window to right but the others are flanked by
windows. The roof is gable-ended and in the centre a louvred lantern rises from the
ridge. It is surmounted by a wrought iron weather vane.
Interior: is open to C19 roof of king post tie beam trusses.
The stables form part of a group with Netherton Hall and the other houses which make
up the attractive hamlet of Farway.
