West gate and gate piers to churchyard of Church of St Peter

GV II

Gate posts and gate. Probably circa 1850-3. The gate posts are built of squared
blocks of local mudstone with moulded ashlar capitals. Gate and overthrow of
wrought iron. The posts are square in section with a roll-moulded cap and with
weathered coping. The gate is set in an iron frame forming an overthrow with,
above that, the lamp-holder. The gate itself has stiles with scrolled finials
and comprises a series of spear-headed rails, alternately full height and to just
above the lock-bar. The gate forms part of a group of attractive listed items
around the central crossroads of the village.
