GV II
House, 1694, altered late C18th. Sandstone rubble with slate roof. 2
storeys. Earliest part of house 4 bays. Windows have plain stone surrounds
and are sashed except for those to the right-hand bay which are sashed with
glazing bars. The ground-floor window of this bay has paired sashes with a
central stone mullion. The door, in the 3rd bay, has a moulded surround
with shaped lintel inscribed 'RHA 1694' and a hood. Drip courses have
been cut back over both storeys. To the right is a one-bay addition which
has sashed windows with glazing bars and plain stone surrounds. At the
left an additional gable wall has been built against the original one,
probably to contain the flues of added fireplaces. Chimneys on gables and
to right of original house. Interior has boxed beams. One, in the room to
the right of the doorway is in the correct position to have been a
firehood bressumer. Right-hand addition has a fixed dresser with a moulded
cornice and with a row of pigeon holes along the bottom shelf. The barn,
to the right, has breathers, and a blocked door with stone surround. The
right-hand end is wider, projects forwards slightly, and has a window with
stone surround. At the rear are 2 wide entrances, the left-hand one within
the wider end and the right-hand one with a concrete lintel. Lower Lee
Farmhouse is a rear wing of Lower Lee and has windows with plain stone
surrounds of late C18th. type.
