CHUDLEIGH OLD EXETER STREET, Chudleigh
SX 8679
6/72 No 6 (Alma House) and railings in
front
23.8.55

GV II

House. Early C19, possibly a remodelling of an earlier building. Cement rendered
and blocked out, probably stone; hipped cement-washed slate roof behind parapet; end
stacks and 1 stack projecting through the roof.
Double depth plan, 2 rooms wide with a central passage and rear service rooms.
2 storeys. The front elevation of 3 bays is not perfectly symmetrical, suggesting
the possibility of a remodelling. Central porch on slender Tuscan columns with a
panelled soffit, 6-panel front door with panelled reveals and reeded pilasters. Left
and right ground floor shallow bows with cornices, 12-pane central and 2 pane outer
sashes. 3 first floor 12-pane sashes with moulded architraves. Iron railings in
front of house.
Interior not inspected.
A very complete exterior, interior features of interest may survive.
