9/207 The Barn House
-
GV II
House, formerly a barn. Probably C16 or C17, remodelled in early C20. Lower parts
of walls are of large-scale granite rubble; upper parts, possibly of cob, are
covered with roughcast. Thatched roof, hipped at right-hand end. Large chimney-
stack of rendered, C20 brick in centre of ridge. 1 storey. 2 window front with
doorway in the middle. Windows and door early C20, imitating early C19; windows
with leaded panes. In apex-of left-hand gable a slit window which appears to have
an old, thick wooden frame. No interior features of interest; the roof-timbers are
all C20. The house is an important element in the thatched 'picture village' of
Wreyland. It is included for group value.
