Farmhouse and adjoining granary. c1600 with mid-C18 additions; refronted and further altered mid- to late C19. Part timber-framed with rendered infill, brick replacement walling and additions, rendered to north elevation; machine-tiled roofs. Originally of hall and cross-wing plan, each part being of two framed bays; hall aligned east/west with cross-wing at west end; single- bay C18 addition at east end of hall and C19 addition to west side of cross- wing; both additions enclose former external chimneys with brick ridge stacks; also east end stack to C18 addition. Single storey with cellar and attic with dormers. Framing: exposed at north end of cross-wing; single row of rectangular panels at first floor level, short straight braces in lower corners and collar and tie-beam truss with two surviving struts. Main north elevation: hall part has a C19 bay window with a 3-light casement with a cambered head on the ground floor and two gabled dormers with 2-light casements; there is a lean-to porch with a catslide roof adjacent to the cross-wing with a rectangular window and C20 partly-glazed door. Cross-wing gable end has a cellar door, a 3-light ground floor casement and an attic light. The C19 addition has a 2-light ground floor casement and a gabled dormer with 2-light casement. Interior not inspected. A large C19 range adjoins the south elevation of the hall part which was built to form the main entrance front; two storeys with dentilled eaves cornice; three bays; windows are all cross casements with cambered heads; central entrance has a moulded flat canopy on shaped brackets, pilasters, panelled reveals and soffit and a partly glazed C20 door. Granary: adjoins end of C19 addition to cross-wing; lower in height and of two levels and one bay; north elevation has a basket-headed archway partly blocked by a low wall with sandstone coping; to the left external sandstone and brick steps lead up to a loft door. The farmhouse is said to have been built as a hunting lodge to Grafton Manor (qv).
