The tie beam prominent in the foreground is part of the original C15th build (although the studs just visible above it are not), as is the west-facing 1st floor wall just visible in the background on the left. The second tie beam, in line with the top of the stairs and with a carved doorway, is also original. The remaining walls visible are all modern, inserted in the 1950s when the property was saved from proposed demolition and renovated. The inglenook fireplace is C17th. Its dividing wall is in line with the first tie beam. The original tie beams mark the divisions between the three almshouses into which this property was once divided (they must have been tiny!), and the first in particular bears burn marks where candles or tapers have been positioned close to the timber. The second tie beam also has carpenters' marks.
