SS 90 SE BROADCLYST HOLLIS HEAD

A pair of cottages. C17 and C18. Cob, stone plinth, rendered under a thatched
roof, gable-end to left, the other ends (each cottage is separately roofed) half-
hipped. 2 storeys.
Front: the left-hand cottage (No. 2) is the older. The neighbouring cottage
stands forward with further projection to right of porch. A wide doorway to the
right leads into a single room which no longer connects internally to either of the
cottages. No. 1 with a single 2-light window under eyebrow eaves + directly above
thatched central porch. Two 2-light windows to ground floor: the external
appearance of this cottage altered after partial collapse of end wall. Left-hand
end of No. 1 with a 2-light timber casement, 15 leaded panes per light. All other
casements C20. External end stack to No. 2, external back lateral stack to No. 1.
Interior: No. 1, right-hand room with 2 axial beams, chamfered with step hollow
stops, and another in present rear corridor; No. 2 with 2 similar beams. Remains of
a C17 roof over No. 2 (2 principals, apex morticed and side pegged), no longer load-
bearing.
