Column monument. 1852, for S.S. Marling. Granite column and
pedestal; limestone base. Tall monolithic fluted Ionic column
with capital and pedestal. Chamfered steps to large square base.
Inscribed on south east side of pedestal: 'THIS COLUMN/FROM
THE/CHELSEWERING GRANITE QUARRIES/NEAR LISKEARD CORNWALL/STOOD AT
THE WESTERN END/OF THE/GREAT EXHIBITION IN LONDON/1851/AND WAS
PLACED HERE/BY/SAMUEL STEPHENS MARLING/1852'. Said to be placed as
a monument to one of Marling's horses.
