south west of Grey Gables
GV II
Walls with railings, gates, gatepiers and stile. 1885 by William
Clissold for Edward Paul. Ashlar limestone; wrought iron.
Gateway to present Manor Drive has piers with vermiculated
rusticated bands, panelling below moulded modillion cornice with
pyramidal cap, and moulded plinth. Elaborate iron gates with
scrolled top rising at centre. Curved flanking walls with moulded
coping and plinth terminated by simpler ashlar piers with dentil
cornice; walls topped by iron railings with elaborated spikes.
Wall with iron railings continues to north, terminated by pier.
Adjacent to south pier is iron stile with simple stone post beyond.
Italianate style matches that of Grey Gables (q.v.) with which
railings and gateway are grouped.
