- II

House and shop in row. Early C19. Fine limestone ashlar with 4 Doric
pilasters to moulded entablature and parapet, the pilasters with bases cur-
tailed by large continuous shop fascia; Welsh slate roof, some areas tiled.
Two storeys, 1:3:2-windowed, sashes with glazing bars, in reveals, but in
bay 3 the opening blank. Full width shop front between consoled pilasters
to plate glass C19 windows with central recessed glazed C19 door, and, far
left, panelled, part glazed door with vertical plain light over. This
lower part is characteristic of the large display windows used by general
hardware stores in the later C19, but it does spoil the finer composition
of the upper floor.
