13/159 Bedwell and unidentified monument,
about lm east of chancel in
churchyard of Church of St. Mary

GV II

Two pedestal tombs. To north Elizabeth Bedwell, 1740, earliest;
to south, unidentified, also 1740. Limestone. Both similar design
with tall stepped top and chamfered cap rising to small flat
pyramidal section with fluted "frill". Slightly indented corners
to main body, with corresponding additional moulded pieces to base
of cap on east and west. Inscriptions to fielded north and south
sides. Ends all have high relief carving on panel and returns,
with similar emblems to both. To east - Bedwell has cartouche,
unidentified has 3 cherubs' heads, both with mirror and book,
hourglass and trumpet on returns. To west - plain panels, palm
leaf, skull and torch on returns.
