ST 82 SW STOUR PROVOST SHADE HOUSE LANE

3/147 Shade House Farmhouse

Farmhouse, C17 with addition dated 1842 and further C20 additions and
alterations. Coursed rubble walls with slate, gable-ended roof.
End, dentilled stack left and brick stack rising from eaves right.
2 storeys, 4 window range (to original range). Ground floor left has
a 4-light, hollow chamfered stone mullioned window with a returned
label. Similar window without label above. Then from left to right
the ground floor has a 2-light wooden casement with glazing bars, a
2-light, hollow chamfered stone mullioned window and a C20 replacement
stone mullioned window. C20 reconstituted stone extension right.
To the rear is a C19 outshut of probably reused stone with C20
fenestration. It bears an inscription 'Wm Lodder Rebuilt This House
In the Year 1842'. Upstairs room said to have a fireplace with
moulded, 4-centred head.
