The Old School House

Former school house, now private residence. Late C19. Finely herringbone-tooled
coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings. Welsh slate roof with stone copings and
stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays, the gabled right bay projecting slightly. Narrow
central bay is an extruded porch with broached, canted first floor and hexagonal
spirelet over. Boarded door in concave-shouldered arch with flat-pointed head.
Small oculus above. Outer bays have ground floor 3-light stone-mullioned windows
with long-shouldered heads and iron lattice glazing; flat dripmoulds with scrolled
ends. First floor 2-light trefoil-headed windows with similar glazing, the left
in a gabled half-dormer. Left end ridged gabled footstones to broad coping. End
stacks. Left return blank but for offset stack projection. 3-bay rear elevation
has similar windows. The left and centre bays project, the latter narrower with
tall stair window.
