3 sides of an open courtyard of 2-storey almshouses in red brick, built
by Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough, in 1736. Facade restored 1850: interior
unharmed. Deep eaves below steep tiled roofs with 10 tall brick stacks.
Central 3 windows and the end facades of the wings are spanned by
pediments, the central pediment enclosing the Marlborough arms carved
in stone. The whole building on a low stone plinth and bound by a
continuous stone band between floors. Transomed and mullioned windows
have modern lead glazing in a fancy pattern. 11 windows and 9 windows
along the central and each flank range respectively. 9 plain doors at
intervals, in simple stone architraves with flat stone hoods. Central
3 windows dressed with stone.
