House. Circa 1813 (documents) for the Morris family, but looks circa
1835; possibly grafted on to earlier core. Coursed and squared
limestone, rendered to front; slate roof with stone ridge stacks. 2
storeys and attic on cellars. 3 windows; sashes in chamfered
surrounds under flat arches, 4-pane to first floor and long 15-pane
sashes to ground floor, string over first floor, raised over windows.
2 gables with coped verges and panelled finials, central link parapet
capped by coarse fleur-de-lys; flanking tall diagonal buttresses
with 2 set-offs and cross-gabled finials; central porch with wide Tudor
arch, flanking diagonal buttresses, parapet string and parapet with
crest depicting spread eagle (the Morris crest) steps (replaced) with
flanking cross-gabled piers to 2-leaf half-glazed doors with marginal
glazing. Garden front with square bay of 4 transomed lights with
cornice and parapet stepped up at corners. Interior: top-lit stair
hall, oak stairs with stick balusters and mahogany rail; columular
newel to curtain. Fielded panelled shutters with early Victorian
mouldings; parallel architraves to doors with flat corners. N.B.
The porch and buttresses appear to be an afterthought (see straight
joints). A pleasing minor gentleman's residence.
