Turrets on the outside of churches tend to contain bell tower staircases, or more rarely, rood loft stairs. This one is very unusual in having stairs from the chancel to the crypt. Above it is a boilerhouse chimney of c1898 with gabled top and trefoil vents. The chancel roof is Swithland slate. (Photo May 2014).
