Description

FROLESWORTH MAIN STREET (North Side)
SP59 SW
3/24 White Cottage

GV II
Cottage. C16 core, extended C18. Timber framed with brick panel infill, and
later brick wing. Welsh slate roof. L-plan: the earliest part is at right
angles to the street and is timber framed, two storied and two bays. The
timber frame only survives substantially intact in the northern bay, framed in
large panels with angle posts with curved arched braces to the east, and a
single middle rail. The wall plate is also visible, though the former
existence of sill beam and intermediate panels cannot be discounted. Queen
strut roof. Two 3-light casements in brick gable wall facing street. 2
single casement windows on the inner face. Later wing is painted brick on a
high, probably granite rubble plinth. 3-light casement window to each floor
on street front: inner doorway and 2-light casement window beyond it in the
rear elevation. Gable end and axial stacks.
