Uploader's Comments

The Shingle street Martello Tower was built between 1809 and 1812 as a defence against possible invasion by Napoleon though this never happend, their walls are up to 15 feet thick. Many were used in both WW1 and WW2 and after the war as Coastguard stations. Some 29 were built on the East Anglian coast between St. Osyth in Essex and Aldeburgh and only 17 remain, either derelict or converted to houses, like this one.
