Memorial and grave stone. C18. Hammer-dressed stone walls with ashlar copings surmounted at 4 corners by fluted columns of Doric type capped by finials and enclosed by cast iron railings. Built into the north wall is a tablet with C18 inscription in Chaucerian language reading: 'Hear Underneath dis laitl stean Laz robert earl of Huntingtun Ne'er arcir ver az hie sa geud An pipl Kauld im robin heud Sick utlawz az hi an iz men Vil england nivr si agen Obiit 24 Kal Dekembris 1247'
The enclosure protects a fragment of the reputed grave, plundered formerly for pieces which were supposed to cure toothache. G. Hepworth, Brighouse, its scenery and antiquities, (Halifax 1885), p.12.
