GV II

Former gate pier, now pier. Early/mid-C18. Limestone ashlar
with vermiculated rustication. Pier is approximately 3m high
with moulded stone plinth, alternate bands of ashlar and
vermiculated rustication, moulded stone cornice, 2-tier cap
with ball finial with band of vermiculated rustication. Pier
has recessed corners. This pier to south of Broad Ride and
matching pier to north of Broad Ride at SP 0062 0229 (qv) may
originally have carried gates between the Deer Park and Lodge
Park and have been moved to their present position when Broad
Ride extended eastwards to Cecily Hill after 1779.
