Cottage, perhaps by Anthony Salvin, 1849. One of several estate buildings designed for John, first Earl Brownlow, in the period 1815-1853. Jacobean revival style. Plinth, and elaborate shaped coped gables with kneelers and finials. Chimney stacks with diagonally set chimneys. Single storey plus attics. Windows have stone surrounds and mullions, and leaded glazing in a hexagon pattern. Two through-eaves dormer windows with elaborate shaped gables. On the ground floor, a window with a stepped head to the central light. Left gable has a lozenge panel containing a sundial, and below, a canted stone bay window with a hipped roof. At the rear, a porch with shouldered gable. (Photo Jun 2014).
