The Royal Arms of King George IV, painted on canvas. Quarters 1 and 4, Gold Lions of England, 2 Red Lion of Scotland, 3 Golden Harp of Ireland, centre inescutcheon of three parts - 2 Gold Lions, 1 Blue Lion, 1 White Horse, with a Gold Crown in the middle - surmounted by the Elector's Bonnet, of Hanover. This dates the painting to 1801 to 1816 after which Hanover became a kingdom and the bonnet was replaced by a crown. The supporting lion has more realistic facial features than those in earlier local paintings of Royal Arms. (Photo Jul 2010).
