Dance School, former maltings

Dance school, former maltings in the Central Arcade. Mid C19.
Yellow, Flemish bond gault brickwork with gabled slate roof. 3
low storeys with single storey part to W with entrance. Second
floor has 5 rectangular openings with horizontal ventilator
strips. First floor has five 2-light casement windows with
segmental arched heads and a double-hung sash window with 16
panes. Ground floor has a door opening, a blocked door
opening, 3 similar segmental arched 2-light casements and 2
blind arches. These are semicircular and formerly and open
arcade with central pier and strings at springing. One is now
infilled with brick, the other part boarded and each with a
2-light casement. The building, formerly extended W to the
High Street and remnants of 2 further arches of the arcade are
now part of a slate roofed lean-to block. This now has a 4
pane window and a segmental headed 4 pane window. The frontage
to High Street has 2 painted brick piers with ball finials and
parapet between. Between these is a door of moulded panels in
a elliptical brick arch with bowtel moulding, all round,
interrupted by moulded small capitals and bases.
