Gate House

Toll House. Late C18/early C19. Coursed squared rubble with ashlar
quoins, timber lintels; hipped stone slate roof; brick chimney in valley.
2-span plan with projecting canted wing to left. 2 storeys; 2-window range
of large-paned sashes with vertical glazing bars. Entered from the right
side. Lean-to extension to rear. Interior not inspected. The road was
turnpiked between 1798 and 1800, and disturnpiked in 1877. VCH
Oxfordshire 10 (1972), 128.
