Farmhouse, now divided and attached barn. Probably late C17 extended early to
mid-C19 with later alterations. Uncoursed limestone rubble; stone slate roofs.
Basic L-plan with barn attached to gable end of projecting range. 2 storeys.
Main range of Cotswold Cottage has 4-light C19 casement directly below eaves to
left and one of 3 lights to right. Similar casements with moulded wood lintels
to ground floor, 2 to left and one to right of boarded door in angle with
projecting range. This has C19 casement directly below eaves to left and blocked
doorway to right. Main range has integral end stack with dripstone and moulded
brick capping to left and red brick ridge stack to right. Integral red brick end
stack to projecting range. Pear Tree Cottage has two C19 casements on each floor
to projecting range, those to first floor directly below eaves, and one on each
floor to gable. Boarded door between. Short gabled range at right-angles to
rear on left of Cotswold Cottage and lean-to to rear of Pear Tree Cottage. Barn:
attached to gable end of projecting range has plank door to left, 2 casements to
centre and plank double doors to half-hipped angled splay. Interior. Cotswold
Cottage: large ground-floor room of main range has chamfered spine beam with
run-out stops and stone inglenook fireplace with moulded wooden lintel and bread
oven to right. Late C18 inset wall cupboard to right probably in position of
original staircase and inset panelled cupboards on either side of doorway
leading to rear range also lock C18. Present dog-leg staircase probably inserted
in C18. Moulded handrail with sawn-off balusters (probably of splat type) to
underside and square newel with finial removed lock late C17 and probably
brought in from elsewhere. Pear Tree Cottage in process of extensive renovation
at time of resurvey (May 1987).
