Former farmhouse. Early C16 (or possibly earlier) core; later C16 alterations
and one-cell addition to form a 3-ceIl house. Early C17 wing set forward
making a T-shape plan. Timber framed and rendered. Gable end of C17 wing has
restored exposed framing; some mid C20 applied studding to adjacent walls.
Roof of concrete plaintiles. 2 storeys and attics. Windows mainly mid C20
casements with imitation diamond-leaded panes. One C16 diamond-mullioned
window to rear and other restored mullioned windows. Single-storey enclosed
corner porch with mid C20 plank door. Internal stack with rendered axial
shaft. Interior. 3 earliest bays of main range show evidence for
considerable alteration, including insertion of stack into part of centre bay
and insertion of upper floor in section to left of this stack. Exposed
studding with reverse-curved braces. Evidence for probable open hall window
(just above upper floor level behind stack) and for upper window at former
gable end to right; both had diamond mullions. Centre cell has chamfered-
joist ceiling, set higher than the inserted ceiling in left cell. Right cell
is later C16 one-bay addition: intact first floor framing with steep reverse-
curved braces; substantial plain ceiling joists on ground gloor. A small
portion of the roof exposed above the left cell has sooted rafters. Remainder
of roof not examined.
