GV II

Pair of town houses, now offices. c1809. By Robert Blee,
builder. Local freestone ashlar front, roof hidden behind
parapet, brick end stack on the left. Double-depth
mirror-image pair with passage between. 3 storeys over blocked
basement; overall symmetrical 4-window front has plinth,
central round-arched passsage doorway flanked by 2 similar but
smaller doorways with projecting impost blocks, 6-panel doors,
plain fanlights. Other openings spanned by shallow segmental
arches with projecting keyblocks; moulded cornices under
parapets, bolder cornice to No.78 (right). Original hornless
sashes with glazing bars except where glazing bars have been
removed to ground-floor sashes and lower halves of first-floor
sashes to No.77 and later horned sashes to 2nd floor of No.78.
INTERIOR: many original features including moulded and carved
plaster ceiling cornices and bands.
