House. c1840. Probably by RS Pope. Limestone ashlar with
gable-end stacks and a pantile roof. Double-depth plan.
Italianate style.
3 storeys; 3-window range. A right-hand pedimented wing with
wide quoin strips, a 2-storey parapeted block to the left, and
central 2-storey entrance hall with a porch in the angle
between; plat band and first-floor sill band. Open
single-storey porch has panelled jambs to a semicircular arch,
and segmental-arched doorway with overlight and 2-panel door.
The wing has paired semicircular-arched ground-floor windows
with 2/2-pane sashes with margin panes, a single first-floor
window over a wide panel, and a smaller second-floor window; a
semicircular-arched window over the door, and a left-hand
2-light bow with 4/4-pane sashes with margin panes;
first-floor windows with 3/6-pane sashes, 3/3-panes to the
second floor. Right-hand elevation has a banded ground floor,
and a right-hand wing as the front.
INTERIOR: central hall with 2 rooms each side and a rear
dogleg stair with turned balusters. Stylistic links with
Pope's Nos 1-7 (qv) opposite support the attribution.
