GV II

Coach house. Probably C18, much altered.
MATERIALS: coursed limestone rubble, plain tile roof with
stone slates to lower courses, hipped to the corner and with
stepped stone coping to the gable ends; stone ridge stack to
right of corner.
PLAN: L-shaped plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 2-window range. Timber lintels and flat
stone arches above C20 casements. A single-storey lean-to wing
runs the width of the front; it has a C20 door to the right
and 4-light window to the left. INTERIOR not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: High rubblestone walls extend from the
front and rear along Abbey Street; that to the front is approx
5m long with Ham Hill stone coping, the left end is attached
to Ham Hill stone gate piers with pyramidal caps and double,
heavy, planked and studded gates with a moulded top; the wall
to the rear, with semi-circular coping, extends for approx
60m; it cants back at the bottom and steps lead down to a
recess for the outlet pipe of Pople's Well.
