II
Public house. Mid C19. Coursed slatestone with brick and
stucco dressings to front; slatehanging to right-hand return,
otherwise rubble; hipped grouted rag slate roof with 2
stuccoed axial stacks; projecting eaves over modillion
cornice. Deep plan including rear service wing. 2 storeys;
1:1:1-bay front. Recessed central bay with 3-light window over
pair of round-arched doorways; otherwise 2-light windows:
segmental-arched windows to 1st-floor left and right,
otherwise round-arched windows, all with original 2-pane
hornless sashes; moulded arches, stepped imposts and caps over
mullions and sills on brackets. Rear wing has sashes with
glazing bars. INTERIOR has many original features including
some moulded ceiling cornices and open-well staircase. This
building is an interesting and externally complete example of
a public house built to cater for the trade provided by the
Cornwall Railway passengers.
